Are these assessments a replacement for skilled interview techniques and intuition?

EQ based assessments and benchmarked indexes are not a replacement for skilled situational and behavioral interview techniques. Unfortunately very few recruiters or managers can effectively use these either. What these assessments do is help us to see the things we cannot see, no matter how skilled we may be. Further, we find out what we need to know before the hiring or promotion decision is made rather than after.

This always serves a business and it also always serves the candidate regardless of the outcome.

What do EQ and indexed assessments tell us?

They tell us a great many things with absolute certainty. In particular, they tell us whether the candidate will actually perform, be happy and contribute in the role they believe they are suited to. Role fit is the single biggest contributor to morale and productivity. Consider the most recent statistics readily available in any good journal - approximately 50% of employees are in a job that they are not suited to and over 40% of employees currently in management positions do not have the skill set or awareness required to manage people effectively.

What is it really about then?

People who are working in roles they are truly suited to are far more productive and happier that those who are not - regardless of the role we are talking about.

Many candidates "genuinely" believe they are suited to roles and professions that they are not. They sell them selves well into these roles and Managers repeatedly select them and wonder why they don't work out as well as they thought they would.

So some people produce more than others - so what?

Every role in every organisation produces something. Take a secretary for example. Would you agree that some are better than others? More efficient, genuinely interested in assisting staff, contribute to morale and always do that little bit more than they were asked to. Such people are worth far more than they are paid to any organisation.
